Volusia deputies arrest 3 men in Deltona home invasion

Volusia deputies arrested three men Saturday night accused of breaking into a Deltona home and tying up five adults while a child hid in a bedroom.

The incident began around 10 p.m. in the 1400 block of Eden Drive when the suspects approached the open garage and pointed guns at two people and demanding they empty their pockets, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The men then went inside the home and brought three other adults living in the residence to the garage, where everyone was tied up, according to investigators.

Volusia deputies arrived as the robbery was happening and heard the victims screaming in the garage.

Jermaine Oliver, 30, John Anderson, 39, and Derrick Mathis, 32, were found inside “rummaging through contents,” the agency said.

Deputies released the victims from the garage and a 7-year-old girl was found unharmed inside the house.

The suspects were confronted by deputies when they tried to escape, the Sheriff’s Office said. One suspect was arrested in the driveway and two were captured in the backyard.

All three suspects were taken to Volusia County Jail and are being held without bond. Charges include home invasion robbery with a firearm, five counts of kidnapping and one count of kidnapping a child.

The Sheriff’s Office said the home invasion is not considered a random incident and is still under investigation.
