Officer placed on leave following violent arrest of woman in Glendale Heights

GLENDALE HEIGHTS, Illinois — Video circulating on social media captured the violent arrest of a woman in Glendale Heights.

Police said the officers were responding to a domestic disturbance call in the 500 block of Gregory Avenue. When they arrived, police said there was a couple arguing in a car, and the woman behind the wheel appeared to be drunk.

Police said when they attempted to arrest the woman, she fought them.

The woman, identified as 23-year-old Tyler Russel, bit an officer’s arm and head-butted him, police said.

The video shows the woman being arrested and appears to show an officer punching her in the head.

The officer was placed on leave and the village also hired a security risk management firm to investigate the incident, according to an open letter from Glendale Heights Village President Linda Jackson.
