Man shot dead after pointing gun at police officers

PARKLAND, KENTUCKY – Officers fatally shot a man for pointing a gun at them.

Body-cam footage of the incident has been released to the public. According to reports, police responded to a domestic violence call at about 9:30 p.m in the 2600 block of Greenwood Avenue.

Video shows two officers show up to a doorstep. Within seconds, they encounter Anthony Wayne French Sr., 49, in the door frame armed with a semi-automatic pistol.

Gun pointed at the officers, French tells the officers to “back up” and that he has a gun.

Police immediately opened fire on French, killing him on the spot. Officers found two other people inside the home following the shooting, French’s ex-wife, and an adult son. Both told police officials that French had been drinking and that he held them inside the home and beat them.

Officers Elzy and Alexander, both hired in 2017, have been placed on administrative reassignment, per LMPD policy.
