Florida man shot after pointing rifle at Daytona Police officers

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida — Police officers shot and injured a man who pointed a rifle at them after attempting to carjack a woman who was waiting for a fast food restaurant to open in Daytona Beach.

The shooting happened on Monday morning after the woman was able to get away and call police.

Daytona Beach police Chief Craig Capri says the man was carrying a rifle as he walked toward a nearby drug store and gas station.

The arriving officers ordered him to drop the rifle.

Instead, he pointed it at them and they shot him. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.
