BRAZIL – An off-duty military police officer was injured by three gunshots wounds on Saturday night, while trying to prevent a robbery at a gas station in Planaltina.
According to reports, two armed suspects stormed the station and held customers captive.
Amongst them was a military police officer who managed to leave the scene, grab a gun, return to the store and fire in an attempt to prevent the suspects from escaping.
The officer was shot in the arm and back, and had one of his lungs punctured. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
One of the thieves was also injured in the shootout and was also taken to the hospital where he remains in police custody.
The other suspect managed to escape with about $1800, but was later apprehended on Sunday.
