Black restaurant owner shot dead by National Guard and Louisville Metro Police

Alleged audio of the shooting / A black restaurant owner was shot dead by National Guard and Louisville Metro Police officers earlier this morning.

Police and National Guard troops, who have been monitoring protests, were breaking up a “large crowd” in the food mart’s parking lot at around 12:15am local time when someone shot at them, police said Monday morning.

They returned fire, killing 53-year-old David McAtee in the process.

McAtee was the owner of a barbecue business next to the Dino’s Food Mart parking lot where the shooting took place.

Officials said it is unclear if McAtee was the person who fired at officers.

Police officers involved in the early morning fatal shooting had not activated their body cameras during the incident, Mayor Greg Fischer announced Monday afternoon.

Fischer also said that Louisville Metro Police Chief Steve Conrad, who had already announced his resignation in May, has been fired.
